How does eFileBuddy collect 1099-NEC filing data from my clients?
Simply enter your client's name, company information, and email address, and eFileBuddy will automatically create a personal portal for your client to enter and submit their 1099-NEC info to you.
Your client will receive an introductory email invite from your firm to the eFileBuddy personal portal. They log in to the account from your invitation, enter their contractor's data, and hit "Submit to Accountant".
Does eFileBuddy file with the IRS?
Yes, eFileBuddy will file all your approved 1099-NECs with the IRS once you have submitted them.
Does eFileBuddy file the 1096 Form?
The IRS has eliminated the form 1096 for electronically filed 1099 forms.
From the IRS website:
"Use Form 1096 to transmit paper Forms 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, and W-2G to the Internal Revenue Service. Do not use this form to transmit electronically."
We realize that your clients might get requests for the 1096 from places like their insurance. They will have to inform them of the IRS changes. Using the IRS.gov link above.
Can I use eFileBuddy to issue a 1099 to myself?
Yes! You can add yourself to your dashboard as a payor. One important note is that you have to use a different email address for the "client" than for the "accountant."
Since each email address is its own account, if you use the same email address, it will not add a new client because that email address will already be in use.
How will eFileBuddy reach out to my clients?
When you click “Invite Client” on your dashboard, eFileBuddy sends a personalized email invite to your clients to the email address you provided.
You can resend the invite as many times as you like from your dashboard. Once they have accepted the invite and created an account, you will receive a confirmation email from eFileBuddy.
Can I add my clients manually, or do I need to invite them?
You will be able to add clients yourself, either individually or in batches, in time for the next tax season. Currently, we are working on building out this feature and will notify you once it becomes available.
How does eFileBuddy collect information from Contractors?
Contractors will receive a W9 Request through a secure email. They can fill out their information in the email and return it to eFileBuddy where it will be entered into the dashboard.
Can I charge my clients through eFileBuddy?
Yes, optionally, you can charge your clients your fees for filing 1099s through eFileBuddy or decide to bill them on your own. eFileBuddy provides an easy payment link from Stripe for your clients to pay through.
Do I need to have an email for my Contractors?
No. If you don't have a Contractor's email, simply enter firstname.lastname@example.org in the email field.
You can add the email address later by clicking "edit" on the contractor.
Can I file Prior Years?
Yes. During checkout, you will see that the year is defaulted to the current year (2023). However, you can click the drop-down and choose another year during checkout.
Does eFileBuddy offer Amended Returns?
We will be deploying the Amended Return option shortly.
